Cannot的意思是“不可以”，而can not的意思是“可以不”。cannot用于書面，較為正式；而can not用于口語，比較隨便。英國人說can not 美國人說cannot。cannot是縮寫can't的展開形式。Can't也可以展開為can not，這種寫法比較少見。
